Broken Dreams

Graceful by day,
you stand smiling always further than I can reach.
Mischievous by night,
you unlock the door to my dreams
and let yourself in.
You color the walls of my subconcious,
you sow seeds of your essence in my soul.
And vanish as silently as you arrived,
leaving me starring unbelievingly
at the pale ceiling above my bed,
the ceiling that has weathered many a sullen stare
the ceiling that has broken many a pleasant dream
the ceiling that is dull and unexciting
like the reality it reminds of.
